PROJECT DETAILS
We went searching for a property in the countryside (but not too far from home – Schull) and within a few months we found the almost perfect property!! It took a while to secure, but in April 2012 we signed the contracts and then went straight into designing. A planning application was submitted in May and we started renovating the old farmhouse in June.
We sold our home in Ardmanagh, Schull and moved into a rental property in July. It was full speed ahead, the foundation for the extension were poured in August. The planning application went straight through as expected as I had went through the proposed design with the area planner Sean Taylor before the actual submission, so I knew he was happy with same.
The proposed extension was modern, but it had to be sympathetic to the old house. We moved into our new home in June of 2013. It was a proud moment for sure!! It had been a hard slog over the past 18 months – selling, buying, designing, building, renting, family, kids and at the time of moving in my wife was a few months pregnant with our third child. But we got there in the end, and our new home becomes better every day.
